Ok! It's colored now! I'll just add more comments later. ^___^

-o-

Hi folks. Don't panic. I'm still gonna color this page. It's just that I'm sleepy now so I'll just do it tomorrow, ok? In the meantime, for all you early birds, you can at least see how the new page looks in black and white. No shadows in it either except for the real black ones and Young Helix's clothes and hair.

Ok. I'm off to bed. See you guys tomorrow. ^_^

Finally, the Characters Section is complete. Well, at least the five main characters. I'll just add in the other characters like Sarren and Desideratus at my leisure, ok? Next, I'll probably add some more info and drawings in the Story section. Last, I'll be fixing the very underused Glossary Section. I'll probably merge the glossary with the chracters section and just make it out to be a Cyclopedia or something like that.

After all that, I'll deal with having to make the comics faster. I just want to finish updating the extra sections first because otherwise I don't think I'll get to update them later when I'm concentrating in drawing the comics faster. Whew. Later guys.

Unfortunately, I'm still not finished with the character writeups. I still have to finish Nadine's personality section and the whole of Sephriel's writeup. But if you want to read Helix, Lili and Mendoran's writeups, you can do so now at the characters section. Everything should be finished by tomorrow. For real this time. :P

Wednesday, January 23, 2002

I'm still not done with the new character write-ups but I've updated the layout and the images for now in the characters section. I should be finished with the write-ups tomorrow.

And uh, nobody else is interested to join the mailing list or you just didn't know about it? Anyway, just in case it is the latter reason, you can join by emailing
lovarian-subscribe@topica.com or enter your email address in the Mailing List box beside this blog.

Yes! I'm at last able to upload the new page. I think Keenspace is okay once again. I'm currently working on revamping the old Characters' Page which I consider a bit horrible considering it hadn't changed much in quite a while. ^_^;;;

The new characters page I'm throwing together won't use (or should I say re-use) the colored portraits I did for the group. I am always working on how they should look like and so I have these sketches that reflect those changes. Instead of color pictures, it'll be in sketchy form to give it a scribbled-in-an-old-tome look. That and I'm just looking for an excuse not to ink. ~_^ The sketches are done but the writeups aren't. I'll just keep you guys posted on that.

I think the new characters page should be ready by Wednesday. Cross your fingers. Then after that, I'll be working on the glossary section to list there things that should be there like the Panlikha, names of character extras, names of groups and their purposes, etc... Then I'll be adding much needed pictures in the Background story section. Whew. Lots of things to do eh?

Ashi has requested a CD-ROM of the compilation of the archives plus some extras. Anybody else interested?

That's all I have for now. ^_^
It is again one of those times when keenspace is down due to server upgrades or what have you. I hope you guys are linking and jumping onto my site using the http://lovaria.cjb.net URL. I'll be setting up a mirror site for Lovarian Adventures and when that is done, I can just redirect the CJB.NET address to the mirror site if needed. So please, change the URLs in your links and put in http://lovaria.cjb.net.

I'm writing this blog away from home. When I get home and the FTP is still working, I'll upload the new page meant for yesterday. Apologies everyone.

I've encountered a big bug with regards to the Yahoo Groups mailing list. Sometimes, it botches up in adding new list members who don't have yahoo email addresses. This is a big flaw specially if I want readers of mine who don't like yahoo to join the mailing list.

And so I looked for an alternative mailing list provider. I think Topica.com would do just fine in providing the mailing list for Lovarian Adventures. So, for those of you who has already registered before for the mailing list, can you please register again? I will delete the first mailing list because of it's malfunction.

Again, to subscribe, you can use the Mailing List box on the right column (it should work now) or better yet, just email lovarian-subscribe@topica.com. Sorry about the inconvenience guys. ^_^;;;

As you may or may not notice, the main page has changed a bit. I did away with the reliance of my webcomic to the Keenspace autoupdater. I haven't updated all of the old pages yet though so the menu in those old pages is still the old one. Please inform me if there are any problems encountered, ok? ^____^

Some updates on what I'm currently doing.

First, I'm now advertising the Lovarian Adventures mailing list! Subscribe here to get up-to-date announcements concerning Lovarian Adventures, to swap emails with me and fellow readers, and for (possible) special offers. ;) To subscribe, email
lovarian-subscribe@topica.com or enter your email address over at the new Mailing List box on the right column area. Please join. :) And send an email once you join so that I can be notified when there is a new member, ok?

Anyway, I've already redesigned the new way I'm going to be handling the webcomics area. To take a look, point your browsers to http://lovarianadventures.keenspace.com/comics.html or click here.

This is to move away from being dependent on the Keenspace autoupdater. This way, if I decide to get a mirror server, I don't have to change anything. Also useful if I ever decide to a different host.

Even the new comics area is ready to go, the old way of doing things is still in the main page at the moment. I'll be replacing and removing the old comic handling soon.

Whew. Time for me to sleep. Later dudes!

Okay. My comic is still in the stupid Keenspace autoupdater queue at number 1760. I guess it will take a while yet. And so, to view the current comic (episode 49) just click here for the time being. Sorry about this.

Also, I'd also like to take this opportunity to inform everybody that Kickass Webcomics Exchange now has an IRC Channel over at Nightstar. To connect, get an IRC program like mIRC then connect to DeepThought.NJ.US.Nightstar.Net. Instead of port 6667 (the default), change it to port 6668 or 6669. You have to change it because port 6667 won't work anymore. Then once logged in, go to the #KWE channel.

I usually drop by there duing my night time so that means it's day time for you folks in the US. Sometimes I drop by at noon (your US night time) too. My nick is LordSephriel in case you are wondering. Drop by and get to know the KWE artist members and maybe even fellow readers. :D See ya guys there.

Oh and thanks to Kaichi Satake of Shadowfall for creating the #KWE channel for us! :D
Uh, I'm at queue number 2168 of the Keenspace autoupdater. Ugh. So if you don't see the new comic yet, that just means it must still be in the Keenspace updater queue. It should update properly. I'll just check again in the morning to see if it has actually updated. If not, I'll probably just make the comic page JPG vieawable via direct URL.

Anyway, today is bad art day. Yep. I get those too. But instead of drawing a quick sketch, I thought I just do the comic page anyway to move the story along. I'm already concerned that the story is going slowly as it is. Speaking of the speed of the story, you may want to join the conversation in the forum about it by clicking here.

That's all for now folks. I'm off to bed.

Friday, January 11, 2002

Hi dear readers!

Chris (Gillikin) suggested that I go back to black and white if that would help me do 2 comics per week instead of one. That got me thinking...

I also believe that the story is moving a bit slowly but I really cannot spare any more free time to do more than one page (full-colored) per week. But if I scale down the effort I put into each page, I may be able to crank out more pages on Sundays and release them at two days (maybe even three but don't count on it) in a week.

The question I want to pose to you readers is this: Are you willing that I sacrifice a bit in terms of comic quality for more pages per week to get the story rolling faster?

What do I mean by lesser quality? Well, I may go back to the old pencil shading thing I did before but I think it is far easier for me to just shade it in the PC instead using Photoshop. So that means a lesser quality comic will be in grayscale, CGI shaded in cel-type style (like what I'm doing now).

Tell me what do you guys think at the forum here! Emailing me is okay but I prefer you post it at the forum so people can give feedback to what you posted too. Sort of like brainstorming.

Another alternative I had while I was thinking of ways to speed up the comic production is to do half crosswise pages (ala The Makeshift Miracle).

I know it is just like dividing a page into two and passing it off as 2x/week sched. It is, in a way, but at the same time it isn't.

The same story I can fit in one real page, I can probably fit into a crosswise half page. The difference here is that if I do the same layout I did for that half page and do that two times to make one whole page, it won't look very pretty layout-wise. But as a stand-alone crosswise half page, it will look okay. Also, it will still be faster for me because I'll have to draw less miscellaneous filler stuff.

But for those who are hoping for a compiled and published Lovarian Adventures book someday, 2 crosswise half-pages should fit in one book page so this change shouldn't be a problem.

Again, tell me what do you guys think at the forum here!

Wow. This is a pretty late update in a while huh? I'll be honest. One reason why it took me long to do this page is because I had to research on crows. I tried drawing the things in flight but they looked real bad. Like they weren't crows. This is as close as I can get in the meantime. Ugh. The next comic page should still be on Sunday as scheduled.

I also have recently received a fanart from David Simpson of A Party of Fools webcomics. Click on the image below to see it:

Well that's all for now. I'm sleepy so I'm off to bed. Night people. =_=

Bad news! The comic page will be late again this time. o_O I know it is twice in a row and I'm really sorry about this. It's a matter of artist's block (if there is such a thing). Sort of bad art day. I know nobody wants these types of excuses. Heck I don't like them myself. In this case though, you'll just have to bear with me.

I cannot promise that the new comic will be up by tomorrow (Monday for me) so tell you what. Just come back Wednesday. I should be done by then. Again, I apologize.

Next, I would like to thank Daniel Jacobson for your very very generous donation to Lovarian Adventures! ^___^ This is also why I feel extra embarassed to release the pages late.

Thank you also for those who greeted me on my Birthday (and specially to those who gave me actual gifts). Speaking of my birthday, this was also Rizal Day in the Philippines. Rizal day commemorates the death of my country's National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, writer, doctor, and artist. He is also considered the Father of Philippine Comics. Imagine having the father of one country's comics for a hero, huh?

Being born in Rizal day, they put a Joseph in my name. Anyway, if you are curious, he was executed by the Spaniards accusing him for starting the revolution against Spanish colonial rule. Ok. Enough history lessons.

I'll be going back to drawing now. I can actually finish this page now if I stay up very late but I wanted to get up early tomorrow for work. Before, I come to the office nearly at around 9:45 am everyday. I just wanted to change that. That is why I need to sleep early. And thus, I can't finish the page tonight. Hope this is understandable.

Just check back later guys.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Yes, the comic page is really late. It's now 6 am and I need to sleep. I spent whole night finishing the colors. It took me longer than I expected. Again! ::Groan:: Anyway, I'll be doing the upcoming Sunday page tomorrow so that I can finally get ahead. (Yeah right!)

I would like to thank my fellow webcomic creator and supposed-Helix fan Emily Teal Young for the the birthday gift. But really, you shouldn't have considering I know you don't work yet. Thanks anyway. I really appreciate it. ^_________^

On more personal stuff, this has got to be the worst Christmas and New Year's Eve I ever had in my entire life! I'm alone and there is nothing here in Canberra. Last year when I was in Sydney, at least there was the fireworks and there were a lot of people. Here, New Year's Eve came and went without any ado. Sheesh.

BTW, you guys have to check out this sci-fi webcomic called Outsider! Looks great so far. My fiancee personally doesn't like the way the artist draws faces though. But I like it anyway. ~_^

That's it for now. Time for me to sleep. Later dudes.
